Natalie McCool interview – ‘Wind Blows Harder’ single out June 16th

Artist name: Natalie McCool
Release name: (album? single? EP?) Single: Wind Blows Harder
Release date: 16th June 2014
1. Where and when did you first discover your interest in music?

I first started playing guitar when I was about 8. My dad plays the blues so I was always surrounded by various acoustic guitars in the house and I taught myself before I got guitar lessons at school. So my first love was playing guitar, anything I could learn – I learnt it. Then when I was 17 I got into LIPA on guitar and never looked back!
2. What are your main ambitions in the industry?

The sky is the limit!
3. When did you start writing your own songs/music?

I think I wrote my first proper song when I was 14, ie. the first song I was brave enough to perform in front of people! Shortly after that I played my first ever gig. After that I never stopped!
4. What would you say is your music career highlight to date?

Playing Hyde Park to over 100,000 people – that was AMAZING!
5. Who will we hear in your songs? What are your influences?

Guitar wise I’m influenced by a lot of 80’s/90s music like The Smiths/Johnny Marr, Stone Roses, Cocteau Twins, Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey, The Police, RATM, Radiohead & Deftones. They are pretty much all my guitar influences.
6. What’s the most important thing you’d want to tell people about your current release? That the chorus is in 7/8 time signature, but doesn’t feel like it.
7. Who else can you recommend from your genre or local area for people to have a listen to?

From Liverpool area my favourites are Broken Men, Yarbo, Bird & Silent Cities.
8. Any gigs coming up?

Yes, my single launch is 11th June at Birthdays in London, and I’m also playing at show 17th June in Manchester at The Castle Hotel.
