Artist: Jess Thristan
Release: Little Bird single
Release date: October 20th
1. Where and when did you first discover your interest in music?
I’ve always been interested in music from a young age, I’m not sure where it came from, I guess it was just embedded in me somewhere. Me and my best friend used to write songs together and perform them when we were really young and it just stuck with me. I think something just clicked for me around that time and I found something I enjoyed and that I was apparently good at!
2. What are your main ambitions in the industry?
If you’d have asked me this question 6 months ago I would’ve said recording an album but that’s something I’m actually doing now! Aside from my ambition to live my life making music that I love, I’d probably say my main ambition is to inspire other young musicians around the country and the rest of the world and show them that if you work hard you can achieve anything you put your mind to.
3. When did you start writing your own songs/music?
Like I said before, my best friend and I used to write songs together when we were about 10 (not that they were any good!) and I think something about that just stuck with me and I eventually decided to start writing my own music when I was 14 and since then I’ve never stopped.
4. What would you say is your music career highlight to date?
That’s a tough questions because I have so many highlights! Everything I’m doing is a highlight. I never thought I’d be recording my debut album and working with such amazing people and yet I am every day. It’s an honour and a privilege and I’m so thankful to have such a great team around me who are like family. I would say the biggest highlight was recording my debut single “Little Bird” and standing in the vocal booth thinking ‘wow, this is really happening’.
5. Who will we hear in your songs? What are your influences?
My influences are so diverse which is what I think helps my music stand out and be different. I’m a huge fan of The Beatles and Coldplay. I so admire the songwriting of Carole King too, she’s a big influence on me. But I also love artists like Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, George Ezra, etc.
6. What’s the most important thing you’d want to tell people about your current release?
Enjoy it! Let it tell your story. I think with this song it can apply to so many different situations and it’s really up to the listener as to what it’s about. It’s a fun and upbeat song that people can interpret in different ways which I think is what’s really special about it.
7. Who else can you recommend from your genre or local area for people to have a listen to?
Some musicians I’m really loving listening to at the moment are Ward Thomas, The Shires, Natalie Holmes, Bess Atwell and Harry Seaton.
8. Any gigs coming up?
I do have live shows coming up that I’ll be revealing news about soon. You can keep up with all of my live shows on my Twitter, Facebook and my website.
9. Where can we find/follow you online?
